From Korail to Paris: Crafting Resilience at the Grand Palais

Bangladeshi artist Suborna Morsheada, supported by the Durjoy Bangladesh Foundation (DBF), presented her powerful installation "Against All Odds—The Korail Chronicles" at the Révélations International Fine Craft and Creation Biennial, held at the Grand Palais in Paris from May 21 to 25, 2025.
French President Emmanuel Macron inaugurated the event, celebrating global culture and creative innovation.
This marks the first time Bangladesh is participating in Révélations, one of the world's most prestigious platforms for contemporary craft. Over 400 artists from across continents gather to present their most compelling work.
"Against All Odds" illuminates the spirit of Korail, one of Dhaka's largest informal settlements, highlighting not deprivation but resilience, imagination, and community. The installation transforms waste into meaningful narratives and is built from recycled materials like metal scraps, jute, poly packets, and textile remnants.
Through these works, the project reframes Korail as a space of creativity and hope, challenging stereotypes and inviting audiences to see beauty in the overlooked. Later in the process, artist Sajidul Haque joined, adding further depth to the presentation.
With this debut, Bangladesh takes its place on the global stage of contemporary craft, telling stories that matter through materials that endure and voices that rise.
