KOICA, DU celebrate Korean Cultural Day
The Korea International Cooperation Agency Bangladesh Office, in cooperation with the University of Dhaka, organised "Korean Cultural Day 2026" at the Institute of Modern Languages on Wednesday (7 May).
The event brought together students, academics and cultural enthusiasts for a day of cultural exchange.
The programme featured a series of activities, including K-pop dance performances, interactive quiz competitions and a K-pop dance imitation challenge.
Participants also explored Korean heritage through exhibition booths, traditional games, a virtual reality showcase and a dedicated photo booth.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, KOICA Bangladesh Country Director Jihoon Kim emphasised the importance of cultural exchange in strengthening bilateral relations.
He also highlighted KOICA's continued commitment to fostering people-to-people connections alongside development cooperation.
University of Dhaka Treasurer Professor Dr Jahangir Alam Chowdhury appreciated KOICA's initiative, saying such events provide valuable platforms for students to engage with global cultures beyond the classroom.
He said cultural exchange initiatives help broaden perspectives, strengthen mutual understanding and inspire young people to become active global citizens.
KOICA Bangladesh Alumni Association President Md Saifullah Panna, also secretary attached to the Ministry of Public Administration, highlighted the role of alumni in strengthening ties between Bangladesh and the Republic of Korea.
He said KOICA alumni act as vital bridges between the two countries.
He also encouraged students to explore learning and collaboration through the Capacity Improvement and Advancement for Tomorrow programme, which offers master's, PhD and short-term training scholarship opportunities to Bangladeshi government officials every year.
The programme also included a knowledge-sharing session on KOICA's training and scholarship opportunities, reflecting the organisation's continued commitment to capacity development and knowledge exchange.
The event concluded with the handing over of certificates to volunteers from the University of Dhaka.
In his closing remarks, KOICA Bangladesh Deputy Country Director Junsu Kim thanked all partners and participants for their active engagement.
Since 1993, KOICA has been working closely with Bangladesh to support sustainable development and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
KOICA said Korean Cultural Day 2026 further reflects the shared commitment to deepening people-to-people connections through cultural understanding.
