IDCOL organises two-day training to promote rooftop solar in industries
Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) recently organised a two-day training programme aimed at accelerating the adoption of rooftop solar energy in Bangladesh's industrial sector. The initiative highlighted opportunities and financing mechanisms to promote renewable energy, supporting the nation's target of generating 40% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
The programme commenced with opening remarks by Alamgir Morshed, Executive Director and CEO of IDCOL, who emphasised the role of industrial-scale rooftop solar in advancing the country's clean energy agenda. S M Monirul Islam, Deputy CEO and CFO of IDCOL, expressed gratitude to participants and stakeholders for their commitment to Bangladesh's green transformation.
Expert sessions on technical and engineering considerations were delivered by Dr M Rezwan Khan, Director of IDCOL and Professor Emeritus at the United International University (UIU). Key training sessions were led by Md Enamul Karim Pavel, Head of Renewable Energy at IDCOL, focusing on the operational and technical aspects of rooftop solar projects.
Bangladesh has an estimated rooftop solar potential of approximately 5,000 MWp, though only around 300 MWp has been installed so far. IDCOL has financed 165 MWp of projects to date and is actively encouraging local banks to expand financing support, which is crucial to achieving the government's renewable energy targets.
Through initiatives such as this training, IDCOL continues to promote sustainable industrial growth and foster a green economy in Bangladesh.
