GOVT, UNDP and CIDCA launch project for urban poor livelihoods

The Ministry of Local Government, UNDP, and CIDCA launched the LSUPCB project in Dhaka.
Funded through the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund under CIDCA's leadership, the initiative aims to strengthen urban livelihoods by providing vocational skills training, delivering nutrition support packages, and constructing small-scale critical infrastructure. Through these targeted activities, the project aims to empower marginalized households in Dhaka North, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, and Chandpur, aligning with national strategies for inclusive urban development. The Secretary of the Local Government Division attended as the chief guest. Bangladesh contributes less than 0.35% of global emissions yet ranks among the most climate-vulnerable countries. This project is a crucial step to strengthen the livelihoods of our urban poor, uphold their dignity, and build resilience against climate change," he said.
Song Yang, Commercial Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh, reaffirmed China's support, while Stefan Liller, Resident Representative of UNDP Bangladesh, highlighted the project's transformative potential in advancing South-South cooperation and the 2030 Agenda.
The programme will directly support 100,000 low-income urban residents, with a focus on women-headed households and children. It will also build municipal institutional capacity to promote inclusive and sustainable urban governance.
