EBL leads open credit distribution initiative in Moulvibazar
Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) brought together 40 scheduled banks in Moulvibazar on 12 August to distribute loans and promote access to formal credit among marginalised and low-income communities.
Organised under the guidance of Bangladesh Bank, the "Open Credit Distribution and Seminar 2026" was led by EBL in its capacity as lead bank for Moulvibazar district, according to a press release.
The initiative focused on extending accessible credit facilities to small entrepreneurs, farmers, low-income individuals and people in different professions, enabling them to expand their economic activities and strengthen their livelihoods.
Loan cheques were publicly presented to selected borrowers through the participating banks during the programme.
The seminar also featured discussions on how appropriate access to finance could help expand businesses, generate income and increase participation in formal economic activities.
EBL Executive Vice President and Head of Asset, Retail and SME Banking Mohammad Salekin Ibrahim attended the programme as chief guest.
Janata Bank Deputy General Manager of the Moulvibazar Branch Area Office Ranjan Barman and Bangladesh Krishi Bank Deputy General Manager and Chief Regional Manager Kamal Hossain attended as special guests.
EBL Senior Vice President and Regional Head of Sylhet and Narayanganj Region Abu Sayem Muhammad Zafar Imam chaired the event.
Representatives of the participating banks and selected borrowers were also present.
The initiative is expected to expand access to banking services among underserved communities, strengthen their confidence in the formal financial system and contribute to broader financial inclusion in Moulvibazar.
