DNCC, UNDP unveil digital tool for real-time dengue tracking
To strengthen outbreak monitoring and prevention in Dhaka, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has unveiled a data-driven Dengue Watch Dashboard.
The tool was launched on Wednesday at the DNCC Auditorium.
The DNCC Innovation Lab developed the dashboard in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The tool aims to generate actionable insights for timely interventions. It also seeks to raise public awareness on dengue prevention.
Speaking as the chief guest, DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz said, "The Dengue Watch dashboard is more than a tool. It is a step toward transforming DNCC into a digitally driven, transparent, and accountable institution. By harnessing innovation, we can integrate health, environment, and governance to build a smarter, healthier Dhaka."
Acting CEO Mohamad Ashaduz Zaman stressed the importance of collaboration. Stefan Liller, UNDP Resident Representative in Bangladesh, reaffirmed UNDP's support for urban health innovation. Brigadier General Imru-al-Quais, DNCC's chief health officer, highlighted the urgency of adopting innovative approaches to protect citizens.
The event featured a keynote session and a panel discussion. Stakeholders from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), icddr,b, and other partners participated in the event. Former DGHS director Dr Benazir Ahmed also attended. Participants emphasised that tackling vector-borne diseases, such as dengue, requires real-time data, predictive analytics, and stronger coordination between local and national systems.
