DIU launches year‑long celebration marking 24 years
Daffodil International University (DIU) has launched a year‑long celebration marking the completion of 24 years of its journey and its entry into the 25th year through 25 planned programmes.
The formal inauguration took place today at the Independence Conference Centre and the central field of Daffodil Smart City through a vibrant and festive event. The initiative aims to commemorate the university's 24 years of achievements, innovation and contributions to the expansion of quality education.
The programme began with a colourful rally joined enthusiastically by teachers and students from all departments as it moved across the campus. This was followed by the national anthem and a flash mob performed to the DIU theme song with participation from various student clubs. A key highlight was an artistic dance performance titled "Red to Green: DIU Journey", portraying the university's progress, core values and philosophy of sustainable development. Patriotic and motivational songs performed by students at the central field added an inspiring dimension to the celebration.
In his welcome address, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M R Kabir reflected on DIU's long journey in education, research and the nurturing of human values. Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr Sabur Khan reiterated the leadership philosophy that has guided the university since its inception and reaffirmed its commitment to working for the welfare of people. In his concluding remarks, the Pro‑Vice Chancellor outlined future goals and development plans for the silver jubilee year and expressed gratitude to all involved.
In recognition of the university's long and successful journey, members of the Bangladesh Scouts DIU Air Rover Scout Group received several prestigious awards. Emeritus Professor Dr M Lutfar Rahman received the "Roupya Ilish", the second‑highest award of Bangladesh Scouts. This marks the first time an individual from any private university in the country has received this distinguished honour. Dr Mohammad Emran Hossain, Member of the DIU Board of Trustees and Secretary of the Air Rover Scout Group, received the Medal of Merit, while Rover Scout Leader Farhana Rahman was awarded the Bar to the Medal of Merit. Three Rover Scouts from the group also received the National Service Award.
As a symbolic moment marking the countdown to the 25th year, a ceremonial torch‑lighting was held, symbolising knowledge, an enlightened future and continuous progress. This was followed by a cake‑cutting ceremony celebrating the 24th founding anniversary of the university, reflecting gratitude for more than two decades of achievements and a commitment to a brighter future. The silver jubilee celebrations will continue throughout the year through a range of creative initiatives focusing on education, innovation, research and social responsibility.
