Citizens Bank holds first Shari’ah Supervisory Committee meeting
Citizens Bank PLC convened the inaugural meeting of its Shari'ah Supervisory Committee at its head office in Dhaka, marking a significant step toward launching its Islamic banking operations.
The meeting was chaired by Professor Dr Mohammad Abdus Samad, Chairman of the Shari'ah Supervisory Committee.
Dr Mufti Muhammad Abu Yusuf and Mufti Muinul Islam, members of the Shari'ah Supervisory Committee, were also in attendance.
Alamgir Hossain, Managing Director of Citizens Bank PLC, attended the meeting, along with Md Mostafizur Rahman and Md Abdul Latif, Deputy Managing Directors; Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Shikder, Head of the Islamic Banking Division; and other officials from the division.
The committee reviewed and approved guidelines, policies, and product programme documents for Islamic banking operations. The areas covered included Shari'ah compliance, service quality, investment management, and operational procedures for Shari'ah-compliant products and services.
Committee members expressed satisfaction with the bank's preparedness and strategic initiatives for introducing Islamic banking services.
They expressed optimism that Citizens Bank PLC's Islamic banking operations would meaningfully contribute to the growth and development of Bangladesh's Islamic banking industry, thereby strengthening the bank's position as a trusted provider of Shari'ah-compliant financial services.
