DIMFF showcases Russian and Bangladeshi short films in Dhaka

The Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF) and the Russian Cultural Centre hosted a 'Russia on Screen' film screening in Dhanmondi.
Held under the theme 'Russia–Bangladesh: Two Nations, One Screen', the event underscored the growing creative partnership between the two nations and showcased the pivotal role of mobile filmmaking in fostering mutual understanding and cultural exchange.
The screening featured a curated selection of short films by Russian and Bangladeshi filmmakers, many of which DIMFF had previously recognised and awarded. Notable titles included Acquaintance by Vitalii Ermakov, Man on the Chair by Gleb Leshchenko, Photo by Roman Sinitsyn, Speedcubing Ain't My Thing by Ruhani Mahmud Monon, Ten Minutes in a Week by Abir Ayon and Interval by Mohammed Farhad Hossain Fahad.
The event attracted a diverse audience of students, emerging filmmakers, cultural representatives and film enthusiasts. It served as a testament to the growing influence of mobile filmmaking as a tool for storytelling, bridging cultures and strengthening bonds in the digital era.
Welcoming remarks were delivered by George Latsuzbaya, Acting Director of the Russian Embassy, who said, 'We are honoured to provide a platform for this collaboration. This initiative marks a wonderful beginning, and I assure you of our continued support in the future'.
In her closing remarks, Syeda Sadia Mehjabin, Advisor of DIMFF, said, 'The Russian House warmly opened its doors to us as we reached out globally. This event celebrated the richness of Russian cinema and cultural exchange. Zahra Nusrat, Festival Director of DIMFF, then gave a vote of thanks.
The Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival, an outreach programme of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), began its journey in 2015 with the motto 'New Generation, New Tools, New Communication'. The festival encourages filmmaking through mobile phones.
The extended film submission deadline for the 12th Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival is 24 October 2025.
