Dhaka University’s TFP Film Club holds 2nd Creative Excellence Awards
Nineteen students of the University of Dhaka received the "2nd TFP Creative Excellence Awards 2025" on Tuesday.
The awards were presented by the Department of Television, Film and Photography (TFP) to mark the department's 14th founding anniversary.
The TFP Film Club, the official film club of the department, organised the second edition of its intra-department audiovisual competition on 3 February 2026. The initiative aims to celebrate and strengthen students' creative practice by encouraging experimentation, collaboration, and visual storytelling.
A total of 129 works were submitted for this year's competition, including films, screenplays, film posters, news reports, and television programmes. A jury board comprising filmmakers, producers, cinematographers, film critics, screenwriters, and journalists shortlisted 41 works across 19 categories.
As part of the day-long programme, 26 nominated films were screened at the Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium. Awards were presented to the winners following the screenings.
Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed, Vice-Provost (Academic), University of Dhaka, attended the ceremony as chief guest. He stated that the Department of Television, Film and Photography has made strong progress over the past 14 years in bridging academia and industry, adding that he expects the department's creative work to continue.
He congratulated the award-winning students and assured continued support for the department's educational programmes and creative initiatives.
Among the jury members present to hand over the awards were Arifur Rahman, producer; Sadia Khalid Reeti, screenwriter and film critic; Ranjan Rabbani, production designer; Nahid Masud, sound designer; Mir Masruruzzaman, journalist; Nasir Mahmud, photographer and TFP faculty member; and Khandakar Rubyat Mursalin, TFP faculty member. They praised the quality of the entries and expressed interest in seeing the awards held annually.
Saiyeed Shahjada Al Kareem, Chairman, Department of Television, Film and Photography, said the programme was organised to build students' creative confidence. "With adequate support, this department will be able to provide world-class education and establish Dhaka University as a centre of creative work recognised worldwide," he said.
He also thanked the guests, jury members, faculty members and students on behalf of the department.
