Coast Guard arrests 14 members of Hatiya’s Fakhrul gang

The notorious Fakhrul gang, infamous for its criminal activities in the Hatiya region of Noakhali, has been dismantled in a successful operation by the Bangladesh Coast Guard.

Lieutenant Commander Khandaker Munif Taki, Media Officer at the Coast Guard headquarters, shared details of the operation on Monday. The gang had long terrorised local residents and fishermen along the Meghna River, engaging in extortion, robbery, land grabbing, and other illicit activities. After receiving numerous appeals from victims, the Coast Guard intensified intelligence gathering in the affected areas to bring the criminals to justice. Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Coast Guard South Zone, under BCG Station Hatiya, launched a special operation in the Bara Auliya Bazar area on 23 November. The raid resulted in the arrest of 14 gang members.

Authorities also seized three firearms, 13 traditional weapons, three deer antlers, 18 mobile phones, a wristwatch, and BDT 48,000 in cash. The apprehended individuals and confiscated items have been handed over to the Hatiya police station for further legal action. Lieutenant Commander Taki confirmed that the operation was part of the Coast Guard's commitment to maintaining law and order in the region and ensuring the safety of its residents.
