City Bank appoints new heads for wholesale and corporate banking divisions

City Bank has announced the appointment of Mesbaul Asif Siddiqui, deputy managing director (DMD), as its new head of wholesale banking. Prior to this role, he served as the chief risk officer of the bank, playing a pivotal role in strengthening the institution's risk management framework.

The bank has also appointed Mohammad Mahmud Gony as deputy managing director (DMD) and head of corporate banking. Before taking on this new responsibility, he served as the head of commercial banking and cluster head of the RMG & textile unit at City Bank.

Asif began his career as a management trainee at Eastern Bank in 1999. Over the years, he gained extensive experience in wholesale banking, working at Commercial Bank of Ceylon and HSBC, where he spent nine years across their Bangladesh and Singapore offices. Since joining City Bank in 2015 as executive vice president (EVP) in corporate banking, Asif has been instrumental in driving the bank's sustainability agenda and green financing initiatives. Under his leadership, City Bank became a proud member of the Net-Zero Banking Alliance under the United Nations Environment Programme for Financial Institutions (UNEP FI). His efforts also contributed to the bank securing a place among Bangladesh's top 10 banks in the central bank's sustainability rating for four consecutive years. Asif holds an MBA in finance from the University of Dhaka and an MBM from the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM).

Mahmud Gony's career at City Bank began in 2001 as a management trainee. When the bank launched its transformation programme in 2007, he played an active role in establishing the corporate banking division. In 2010, he briefly joined another local bank, contributing to its wholesale banking operations before returning to City Bank in 2017 as head of commercial banking.

With 24 years of experience in corporate banking and credit risk management, Gony has been a key driver of business growth, particularly in expanding loan portfolios, increasing trade volumes, and enhancing non-funded income streams. Gony holds a master's degree in agricultural economics from Bangladesh Agricultural University and an MBA in marketing from the University of Dhaka.

With these strategic leadership appointments, City Bank reaffirms its commitment to strengthening its wholesale and corporate banking operations, fostering sustainable growth, and delivering innovative financial solutions.
