Buft apparel festival draws 2,000 students from 32 institutions
The inaugural Buft National Apparel Festival concluded yesterday, drawing more than 2,000 undergraduate students from across Bangladesh to a two-day showcase of competitions, exhibitions, seminars and cultural programmes.
Organised by the Buft Apparel Club, the event took place from 18 to 19 July at the BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology campus, according to a press release.
Participants from textile, fashion and apparel engineering backgrounds represented 32 universities, colleges and student clubs nationwide.
The festival commenced at the university's Multipurpose Hall, chaired by Professor Dr Ayub Nabi Khan, Vice-Chancellor (Designate) of BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology Faruque Hassan attended the festival as the chief guest.
Director of the Technical Wing (Current Charge) at Bangladesh Jute Research Institute Md Moslem Uddin, Director of Jute Textile/PTC Dr Ferdous Ara Dilruba and Chief Scientific Officer of the Jute Textile Wing Dr Nazmina Chowdhury attended as special guests.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Acting) Professor Dr Md Alamgir Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Apparel Studies Professor Dr Mohammed Rubaiyat Chowdhury, Director of the Students' Welfare Office Professor Dr Md Waliul Alam, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Apparel Manufacturing and Technology Md Monirul Islam Rajib, and Adviser to the Buft Apparel Club Shadman Quamar Mahir were also present.
The first day included preliminary rounds of the Apparel Olympiad and the "300 Seconds Innovation" poster-presentation competition.
The Apparel Olympiad tested knowledge of global fashion trends and textile science, while the poster competition highlighted textile sustainability and apparel innovation.
Workshops and student engagement activities were also held throughout the festival.
The second day included competition finals, student exhibitions, seminars and masterclasses.
Managing Director of Fakir Fashion Fakir Kamruzzaman Nahid, President of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association Showkat Aziz Russell, Senior Vice-President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association Amal Podder, Chairman of Shin Shin Group Mohammad Sohel Sadat, Assistant Director of Britannia Garment Packaging Alvin Ahmed, and Director of Giant Group Sharmeen Hassan Tithi attended the sessions.
Vice-President of Human Resources and Administration at Pearl Global Industries Limited Rajib Singha delivered the keynote address.
Winners of the competitions received awards at the closing ceremony. The event concluded with a fashion show, cultural programme and concert.
