BRAC University begins two-day Pahela Baishakh celebration
BRAC University has launched a vibrant two-day Pahela Baishakh festival at its Merul Badda campus in Dhaka, celebrating the Bangla New Year with cultural events, a spirited rally, and traditional activities.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar opened the festival and joined a campus procession alongside students, faculty, and officials. The campus was adorned with traditional motifs, artwork, and handcrafted decorations.
Students staged "Battolar Baishakhi Baran", a cultural programme inspired by Chhayanaut's renowned Ramna Batamul celebrations.
Opening festivities included cultural performances, a puppet show, children's games, and a fair.
On 16 April, events include a film screening, traditional dance, a stage play, a debate, and a discussion with cast members.
A pantomime, puppet dance, and the fair conclude the day's events.
Among the attendees were senior university leaders, faculty, students, and members of the university community.
Khairul Bashar, Director of the Office of Communications, moderated the inauguration.
The festival was organised in collaboration with the university's Drama and Theatre Forum, Cultural Club, Manon, Debating Club, Entrepreneurship Development Forum, Indoor Games Club, Film Club, Leadership Development Forum, and the Office of Communications.
BRAC University said such festivals help advance Sustainable Development Goals, including Quality Education, Reduced Inequalities, and Sustainable Cities and Communities. The university plans to continue organising similar festivals in the future to further support these objectives.
