BRAC Bank rolls out Bangla QR at BRAC University
BRAC Bank has launched Bangla QR at BRAC University, allowing students and others to pay tuition, food, retail purchases and other campus expenses digitally.
Md Mostaqur Rahman FCMA, governor of Bangladesh Bank, inaugurated the initiative at the university's Merul Badda campus in Dhaka on Thursday, according to a press release. The invite highlighted the event's focus on digital payments at BRAC University.
The rollout supports Bangladesh Bank's "Cashless Bangladesh" initiative and wider strategy to expand digital payments through Bangla QR, the country's interoperable QR payment platform.

Bangla QR allows customers of participating banks and mobile financial service providers to make instant payments using a single QR code, regardless of provider.
Under the initiative, tuition and other academic fees, cafeteria and retail bills, and other day-to-day payments at BRAC University can be completed through Bangla QR and other digital banking channels.
The governor also participated in an interactive session with students, answering questions about Bangla QR, digital payments and Bangladesh Bank's initiatives to promote a cashless economy.
Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar, PhD, vice-chancellor of BRAC University; ANM Moinul Kabir, director of Payment Department-1; Md Sharafat Ullah Khan, director of Payment Systems Department-2 at Bangladesh Bank; and Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, managing director and chief executive officer of BRAC Bank, attended the event.
Professor Arshad Mahmud Chowdhury, PhD, pro-vice-chancellor; Ariful Islam, treasurer; and Professor Mohammad Mujibul Haque, dean of BRAC Business School at BRAC University, were also present alongside students and faculty members.
Tareq Refat Ullah Khan said the initiative demonstrated how technology could make everyday transactions simpler, faster and more secure.
"We are delighted to partner with BRAC University in launching Bangladesh's first cashless campus and remain committed to supporting Bangladesh Bank's vision of a Cashless Bangladesh through innovative and inclusive digital payment solutions," he said.
Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar said Bangla QR was an important step towards building a digitally inclusive society and economy.
He added that access to connectivity and smart devices must also be expanded among the wider population to ensure digital inclusion.
Students from the Finance and Accounting Club of BRAC University organised the event.
