BRAC announces emergency aid for korail fire victims
BRAC has announced an initial support package of BDT 5 million for families affected by the devastating fire that swept through the Korail slum in Dhaka on Tuesday evening.
BRAC staff members are currently on the ground assessing the damage and providing essential emergency assistance to help affected families regain a sense of stability and normalcy as quickly as possible.
The fire broke out at around 5:30pm and was brought under control after extensive efforts by firefighters. However, by the time the blaze was contained, a large number of homes had already been destroyed, leaving hundreds of families homeless and in need of urgent support.
To stand beside those whose lives have been upended by this tragedy, BRAC has opened donation channels for individuals and organisations wishing to contribute.
Contributions can be made through the bKash payment option to 01730321765 or to BRAC's account (01501202316474001) at BRAC Bank's Gulshan Avenue branch.
BRAC has long been at the forefront of humanitarian response in Bangladesh, providing immediate and long-term support to disaster-affected communities. In Korail and other urban settlements across Dhaka, the organisation has previously offered cash assistance, relief supplies and rehabilitation support following similar fires and other emergencies.
In addition to immediate relief, BRAC continues to work on strengthening community resilience to future shocks through its social development and disaster preparedness initiatives.
