BPDB signs PPA for 45MW grid-connected solar project in Chattogram
Karnaphuli Power Limited, an affiliate of Baraka Group, together with Singapore-based InfraCo Asia, has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) to establish a 45-megawatt (AC) grid-connected solar power plant in Fatikchhari, Chattogram.
The agreement was signed on Sunday afternoon (25 January) at Power Bhaban.
Baraka Group Director Fahim Ahmed Chowdhury signed the agreement on behalf of the Karnaphuli InfraCo joint venture, while BPDB Secretary Rashedul Haque Pradhan signed for the state-owned power utility.
BPDB Chairman Engineer Md Rezaul Karim, Baraka Group Director Naim Ahmed Chowdhury, other BPDB board members, and senior officials from Baraka Group attended the signing ceremony.
Under the agreement, the solar power project will supply 45 megawatts of renewable electricity to the national grid for 20 years. The project is expected to significantly contribute to Bangladesh's transition to green energy and strengthen long-term energy security.
In addition to the Fatikchhari project, the BPDB has signed agreements with other companies for six more solar power projects nationwide. These comprise a 10-megawatt plant in Noakhali, an 18-megawatt plant in Hathazari, a 50-megawatt plant in Nilphamari, a 100-megawatt plant in Cox's Bazar, a 100-megawatt plant in Mongla, and a 200-megawatt plant in Fatikchhari.
These projects reflect the government's commitment to expanding Bangladesh's renewable energy sector.
