BOU holds training on office administration and file management

Bangladesh Open University (BOU) organised a day-long training on "Office administration, personnel and file management" on Wednesday (3 September) at the Teachers' Seminar Hall of its Gazipur campus.
This initiative aimed to enhance essential administrative skills among assistant directors, administrative officers, section officers, and officials of equivalent rank.
The programme, approved by BOU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam, was organised by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to reinforce BOU's commitment to strong internal administrative practices.
BOU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Saeed Ferdous, PhD, attended as the chief guest. In his inaugural remarks, he highlighted the distinctive role of IQAC at BOU compared to other universities, noting that the institution is service-oriented and values teachers, officers, and staff equally.
He said: "Enhancing skills, providing training, and motivating staff are essential. IQAC's focus on personnel and file management is vital for administrative excellence. Training and refresher courses are essential to prevent mistakes and promote ongoing improvement.
He expressed hope that the training would benefit participants, ultimately helping the university serve the nation through improved services and encouraging staff to work towards institutional advancement.
IQAC Director Professor Dr Md Sirajul Islam presided over the session, while former Additional Secretary of the Government of Bangladesh, Md Alauddin, served as resource person. He covered various aspects of office management, including record-keeping, confidentiality, note-taking, drafting, issuing correspondence, organising meetings, preparing agendas and minutes, and implementing decisions. He also explained leave entitlements, such as sick, casual, compulsory, study, and vacation leave, and emphasised that proper office management ensures efficiency, transparency, and dynamism within an institution.
Professor Dr Mohammad Zahir Raihan, Additional Director of the IQAC, conducted the event. A total of 40 officials of the first batch from BOU's Gazipur campus participated in the training.
