Blood donation programme held at Presidency University

A voluntary daylong blood donation program was successfully organised at the Presidency University campus, spearheaded by the Presidency University Social Service Club in collaboration with the Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation.

This commendable initiative aimed to foster humanitarian awareness among students while supporting patients suffering from Thalassemia and other blood-related disorders. The University's Student Affairs Division was pivotal in ensuring the program's seamless execution.

Professor Dr. Shahidul Islam Khan (Nayeem), Dean of the School of Engineering and Moderator of the PU Social Service Club, coordinated the event. From 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, students, faculty members, and staff actively participated in the blood donation drive, demonstrating remarkable enthusiasm and commitment to the cause.

As a gesture of appreciation, the Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation extended unique benefits to donors, including free blood tests (Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, Syphilis, Malaria, Anti-HBcAB), donor cards, commemorative wristbands, refreshments, and exclusive water bottles.

In his inaugural address, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of Presidency University, remarked:
"Blood donation is a noble act. Initiatives like these, led by our students, will usher in positive societal change. Presidency University remains steadfast in its commitment to humanitarian endeavours."

Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwarul Kabir, the Principal Advisor of Presidency University, served as an immense source of motivation for the donors. Faculty deans, department heads, the Controller of Examinations, the Head of Student Affairs, and other distinguished officials attended the event.

Representing the Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation, Professor Dr. Syeda Masooma Rahman, Vice-Chairman, and Momotaj Jahan Koli, Assistant Manager (Donor Relations & Partnership Development), delivered insightful speeches emphasising the critical need for voluntary blood donation.

As a mark of appreciation, the Presidency University Social Service Club presented a commemorative crest to the Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation for their invaluable contribution to humanitarian efforts.

The programme concluded successfully, echoing the powerful message: *"One bag of blood can save a life."* With this spirit, the university community reaffirmed its dedication to the noble cause of saving lives through voluntary blood donation.
