BKash accounts receive Tk200bn in remittances in 2025
In 2025, expatriates sent Tk200 billion in remittances to the bKash accounts of their families in Bangladesh. A total of 4.1 million bKash accounts received remittances during the year—nearly double the number recorded in 2024.
With the assurance of safe transfers through formal channels and instant delivery, bKash has continued to strengthen its position as a trusted platform for both remittance senders and recipients.
Bangladesh received a record $33 billion in remittances in 2025, marking a 22% increase compared with the previous year. During the same period, remittance inflows through mobile financial services (MFS) channels grew by more than 90 per cent, driven by ease of use and real-time transfer capabilities. Platforms such as bKash have played a key role in this growth.
Currently, expatriates can send money directly to bKash accounts through 135 international money transfer operators from more than 170 countries, with settlements processed through 27 leading commercial banks in Bangladesh. Remittance recipients also receive a government incentive of Tk25 per thousand.
To enhance transparency and convenience, the bKash app has introduced a "Remittance Statement" feature, allowing users to review their remittance history and download detailed statements as required, including for income tax filing purposes.
Recipients can cash out remittances from nearby bKash agent points or withdraw funds from more than 2,500 ATMs nationwide at a cost of Tk7 per thousand.
In addition, remittance recipients can now open deposit pension scheme (DPS) accounts in four banks and one financial institution directly through the bKash app. Funds received can also be used for utility bill payments, education fees, and shopping transactions, expanding the financial use of remittances.
