Global military expenditure rose by 2.9% in real terms to $2.89 trillion in 2025, marking the 11th consecutive year of growth and the highest level ever recorded, accounting for 2.5% of global gross domestic product (GDP).
However, United States military spending at $954 billion fell 7.5% in 2025 from 2024 due to no new financial assistance being approved for Ukraine, in contrast to the $127 billion allocated over the previous three years.
