BGCCI event highlights Germany’s role in Bangladesh economy

The Bangladesh German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BGCCI) hosted a networking event on 14 September at The Westin, Dhaka, for German and EU companies in Bangladesh.
Ms Anja Kersten, the newly appointed Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy in Dhaka, attended as the Chief Guest.
In her remarks, Ms Kersten said, "Bangladesh is a valued partner for Germany, particularly in apparel, renewable energy, and emerging industries. I look forward to working closely with BGCCI and the business community to deepen our bilateral ties and open new avenues of cooperation."
BGCCI President M Maksud welcomed guests and highlighted Germany's significant contribution to Bangladesh's economy, especially in key export sectors. He addressed global trade challenges, including geopolitical tensions, compliance requirements, and sustainability demands, and called for stronger collaboration among businesses, policymakers, and diplomats.
Participants welcomed the interim government's reform agenda, led by Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, which includes measures to enhance governance, promote transparency, and improve infrastructure. They also noted that a favourable policy environment will help expand bilateral trade and investment.
Event Chairman Md Rokonuzzaman thanked participants and underscored the value of regular networking events in promoting dialogue, knowledge sharing, and partnerships.
The programme concluded with an open networking session, providing German and Bangladeshi businesses with opportunities to explore potential collaborations in the evolving market.
