BSEC extends deadline for appointing female independent directors until 31 Dec
Under a previous BSEC directive, listed companies were required to appoint at least one female independent director by 31 December 2025.
The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has extended the deadline until 31 December 2026 for listed companies to appoint at least one female independent director to their boards.
The extension, announced in a directive issued today (26 July), applies to Condition 1(2)(a) of the Corporate Governance Code, 2018.
Under a previous BSEC directive issued on 29 July 2025, listed companies were required to appoint at least one female independent director by 31 December 2025.
The extension follows concerns raised by many listed companies and other market stakeholders over difficulties in finding eligible and qualified female candidates within the stipulated timeframe.
The BSEC, in its directive, has asked the Dhaka Stock Exchange and the Chittagong Stock Exchange to immediately notify all listed companies and relevant stakeholders of the revised deadline to ensure compliance.
