BGB told to ensure neutrality, professionalism during election duty
To ensure the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election is held in a free, fair, neutral, and peaceful manner, Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), has instructed BGB personnel to firmly resist any attempts to carry out sabotage, violence, or create disorder, and to work for a transparent and impartial election.
He issued the instruction while exchanging views with BGB members deployed at election base camps during inspections in Dhaka and adjacent areas.
The BGB Director General visited the election base camps set up at Mugdha Ideal School and College, Uttara Haji Camp, and Tongi in Gazipur on 11 February 2026. During the visits, he reviewed BGB's overall election preparedness, assessed the law and order and security situation, and evaluated the force's operational capability to respond to any untoward incidents during the election period.
He also took stock of the security plans adopted for the election and provided guidance to ensure proper implementation.
The BGB Director General instructed personnel to carry out election duties with the highest standards of professionalism, dedication, and neutrality, noting that any laxity or negligence in maintaining law and order would not be tolerated. He directed members to remain on maximum alert and to respond firmly to any attempt to create sabotage, violence, or unrest.
To ensure voters can exercise their franchise smoothly in a fear-free environment, he instructed BGB members to conduct the maximum possible number of patrols and to carry out search operations by setting up checkpoints to maintain an orderly election atmosphere.
He also urged members to behave politely, humanely, and responsibly with voters and the public. The BGB Director General expressed confidence that BGB personnel would protect the democratic process and ensure public safety by performing their assigned duties with honesty, dedication, and professionalism.
