BGB enhances border security with new outposts in Teknaf
Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh, inaugurated the St Martin's Border Outpost (BOP) under Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB), as well as the newly established Sea Beach BOP in Teknaf.
The BGB director general inaugurated the St Martin's BOP yesterday, where a modern soldiers' quarters with updated facilities has been constructed. The outpost has been built to ensure the safety of BGB members on duty, enhance operational efficiency, strengthen morale, and improve overall operational capability. As a result, the security system of St Martin's Island is expected to become more dynamic and effective.
Later, the director general inaugurated the newly constructed Sea Beach BOP at Lengurbil in Teknaf. Built with modern architectural design, the outpost is equipped with all necessary facilities. The Sea Beach BOP is expected to play a significant role in strengthening border security and enhancing the security, efficiency, morale, and operational capacity of BGB personnel stationed there.
St Martin's Island, located about 16 kilometres south of Teknaf upazila, was previously under the security responsibility of the then Bangladesh Rifles until 1997, after which the responsibility was handed over to the Bangladesh Coast Guard. Considering the strategic importance and security of the border area, Border Guard Bangladesh was redeployed on St Martin's Island on 7 April 2019.
With the inauguration of the new border outpost, full-scale operational activities of the St Martin's BOP have formally commenced.
