BCSIR partners with BUFT to boost research and skills training
The Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) and BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 2 December 2025, forming a strategic partnership to advance research excellence, promote sustainable innovation, and enhance technical skills development across the science, technology, and textile sectors.
The collaboration opens opportunities for joint research in sustainable textiles, biomaterials, smart and composite materials, natural dyes, recycling, and eco-friendly processing. It also encompasses co-hosting scientific conferences, seminars, capacity-building workshops, and specialised training programmes for teachers, researchers, scientists, and students from both institutions.
Under the agreement, BCSIR and BUFT will share scientific materials, journals, and laboratory resources, as well as jointly supervise graduate and postgraduate research projects. The partnership aims to drive innovation in product development, functional textiles, and industrial process improvement—key components in achieving national sustainability targets and supporting Bangladesh's progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
The MoU was signed by Dr Samina Ahmed, Chair of BCSIR, and Faruque Hassan, Chair of the Board of Trustees of BUFT. Valid for three years, the agreement may be renewed by mutual consent.
Leaders of both organisations stated that the partnership will foster new research opportunities, strengthen intellectual property outputs, and reinforce long-term academic and scientific cooperation, contributing to Bangladesh's technological and industrial advancement.
