Bangladesh seeks France’s support after LDC graduation
Bangladesh has sought France's support in addressing the challenges it is expected to face following graduation from the least developed country (LDC) category.
Foreign Adviser, Md Touhid Hossain, made the request when Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet, the newly appointed Ambassador of France to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on him at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, according to a press release.
The Foreign Adviser congratulated the ambassador on assuming office and expressed confidence that bilateral ties would be further strengthened during his tenure.
Both sides discussed a wide range of issues, including Bangladesh's upcoming national election, trade and investment, defence cooperation, migration, and matters concerning the Bangladeshi diaspora.
Touhid Hossain appreciated France's longstanding development partnership and its support for the interim government in Bangladesh's democratic transition. He encouraged the ambassador to expand French engagement in trade and investment, development cooperation, skills development, climate action, and energy collaboration.
Ambassador Séré-Charlet reaffirmed France's commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation and deepening trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges. He reiterated France's view of Bangladesh as a peaceful and democratic nation, and expressed interest in exploring further collaboration in the development sector.
Later in the day, the French ambassador also met Foreign Secretary, Ambassador Asad Alam Siam, and discussed bilateral, regional, and global issues of mutual interest. The Foreign Secretary assured him of full cooperation during his tenure in Bangladesh.
