Bangladesh, Malaysia seek stronger cooperation in agriculture, livestock
Bangladesh and Malaysia have emphasised stronger bilateral cooperation in agriculture, fisheries and livestock, with a focus on trade expansion, technology transfer and the halal meat industry.
The issues were discussed during Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mohd Shuhada Othman's courtesy call on Fisheries, Livestock and Agriculture Minister Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid at the Secretariat on Wednesday, according to a press release.
The two sides discussed ways to deepen relations and expand cooperation in fisheries, livestock and agriculture.

The talks covered the potential for halal meat exports, compliance with international standards for animal products, technology and knowledge exchange, research collaboration, skilled workforce development, increased investment, and trade in agricultural and livestock products.
The export potential of Bangladesh's Black Bengal goat to Malaysia was a major focus of the meeting.
The two sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between relevant agencies in both countries on animal health certification, halal certification, quarantine protocols, sanitary and phytosanitary standards, and market access.
They also discussed the prospects of exporting fish, meat, milk and other animal products from Bangladesh to Malaysia.
Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid said the two countries could leverage their strong bilateral relations for joint ventures, technology transfer, investment, and trade expansion across sectors.
He sought Malaysia's expertise and technical assistance to strengthen Bangladesh's capacity to compete in the international halal meat market.
Mohd Shuhada Othman praised Bangladesh's progress in agriculture and livestock and said Malaysia wanted to expand trade in promising agricultural and animal products, including the Black Bengal goat.
He also stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between the public and private sectors of the two countries.
Malaysian High Commission First Secretary Hazwan Hasnol also attended the meeting.
