Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission appoints new chairman

Dr  Quamrul Huda, Chief Scientific Officer and Director of the Quality Management Division at the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) was appointed as the Acting Chairman of BAEC through an official government notification issued on 13 February 2025.

With a career spanning 33 years, Dr Huda has contributed extensively to theoretical research on the 3 MW TRIGA Mark-II research reactor in Savar. His work includes heat transfer and safety analysis and experimental studies on the quality assessment of shielding materials. Additionally, he has been involved in the design of various nuclear power plant codes, burn-up analysis, and safety parameter determination. He is currently engaged in the overall activities of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction project.

Dr Huda completed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) from Ghorashal WAPDA School in 1981 and his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) from Notre Dame College in 1983. He obtained his Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Physics from the University of Dhaka in 1986 and a Master of Science (MSc) in Physics from the same university in 1987. Later, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Reactor Physics from Jahangirnagar University.

He has published approximately 80 research papers in national and international journals.
Dr Huda, a nuclear scientist, was born into a distinguished Muslim family on 1 January 1967 in Putina village, Daudpur Union, Rupganj Upazila, Narayanganj District. He joined the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission as a Scientific Officer on 12 December 1991.
