Australia eyes deeper cooperation with Bangladesh
Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Susan Ryle, briefed State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shama Obaed Islam, MP, regarding the forthcoming visit during a meeting at the foreign ministry on Tuesday morning.
The Australian delegation is scheduled to meet the Speaker of Parliament, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, MP, as well as State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shama Obaed Islam, MP. The programme includes a guided tour of the parliament building and the July Revolution Memorial Museum, and the delegation is expected to observe parliamentary proceedings.
The Australian envoy highlighted the potential for supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Australia to Bangladesh to address the country's energy requirements.
Discussions also covered prospective bilateral cooperation in the agriculture and climate sectors, alongside opportunities to expand trade and investment between the two countries.
State Minister Islam emphasised the importance of collaboration in developing Bangladesh's workforce and advancing women's empowerment.
She expressed optimism that the visit would inject fresh impetus into Bangladesh-Australia relations following the formation of the new government.
