AMTOB elects new President at annual meeting
Robi Axiata PLC Managing Director and CEO Ziad Shatara has been elected president of the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB), positioning him at the forefront of the country's digital transformation.
Shatara was elected during AMTOB's virtual annual general meeting on 11 March 2026. He will succeed Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman for a two-year term beginning 1 April.
The new AMTOB board appointed Banglalink CEO Johan Buse as senior vice president, Yasir Azman as vice president, and Teletalk Managing Director Nurul Mabud Chowdhury as director.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Zulfikar (Retd), director and secretary general of AMTOB, moderated the session.
Senior representatives from AMTOB's member and associate member organisations also attended, including Ericsson Bangladesh Country Manager Abdus Salam; Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) CEO Jason Wu; Banglalink CCRAO Taimur Rahman; Grameenphone CCAO Tanveer Mohammad; Robi Axiata CCRO Shahed Alam; and Teletalk DGM Luthfullahil Mozid.
Upon his appointment, Shatara stated, "I am honoured to lead AMTOB at a pivotal moment for Bangladesh's digital economy. The mobile telecommunications sector reaches every individual, and we are committed to shaping a smart, sustainable digital future. By collaborating with regulators and industry partners, we will unlock the sector's full potential to drive economic growth."
He added, "We will focus on understanding the evolving digital needs of Bangladeshis and fostering an environment where innovation thrives. Together, we will expand connectivity and ensure the sector's meaningful contribution to the nation's economic progress."
AMTOB expressed confidence that the newly elected president and board will advance the mobile telecommunications sector and reinforce its role in Bangladesh's digital transformation.
