The interim government proposed a Tk 790,000 crore budget for the 2025–2026 fiscal year on Monday. The budget amounts to 12.7% of GDP, representing a 0.88% decrease from the original budget for the outgoing fiscal year, but a 6.18% increase compared to the revised budget.

The proposed revenue collection target is set at Tk 564,000 crore, which is 8.88% higher than the revised target for the current fiscal year.

Given the current economic context, implementing the budget will be highly challenging. However, analysts believe that successful implementation will require not only improved budget management but also substantial reforms in tax policy, the automation of the tax system, a reduction in systemic revenue losses, and an enhanced capacity within the tax administration to deliver effective public services.
