Budget FY27: Disaster management allocation may rise to Tk10,350 crore
Funding boost targets preparedness, employment and rural infrastructure
The government is set to propose a higher allocation for the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief in FY2026-27 to strengthen disaster preparedness and response efforts.
According to Finance Ministry sources, the proposed allocation for the ministry may reach Tk10,350 crore in the upcoming budget. The revised allocation for FY2025-26 was Tk9,069 crore, meaning the proposed allocation would increase by Tk1,281 crore.
Sources said the Employment Generation Programme for the Poorest (EGPP) has provided jobs to around 2 million rural workers, one-third of whom are women.
In the current fiscal year, more than Tk1,510 crore has been allocated to the Kajer Binimoye Taka (Kabita) programme, while over Tk1,454 crore has been earmarked for Test Relief (TR) projects to support the maintenance of rural infrastructure.
To strengthen disaster response capacity, the government has purchased modern rescue equipment and 11 aerial platform ladders at a cost of Tk521 crore for use in earthquake and other emergency rescue operations. It has also ensured a fully wireless communication system for the Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP).
The first full budget of the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will be placed in parliament at 3pm today (11 June). Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury will present the FY2026-27 budget.
