Black money whitening provision completely against state reform objectives: TIB slams interim govt
Expressing concern, TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman says the government’s decision will encourage corruption

The Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has strongly condemned the decision to continue the provision for whitening black money in the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2025–26.
Criticising this move by the interim government, the organisation stated that it reflects a stance completely contrary to the objectives of state reform, particularly the core purpose of the Anti-Corruption Commission reform.
In an instant reaction to the budget announced by the finance adviser today (2 June), TIB termed the decision unethical, discriminatory, and in violation of the constitution.
"Whatever way it may be interpreted, to undermine the core mandate of state reform in general and anti-corruption in particular, this shows how the interim government has surrendered to the real estate lobby power to facilitate corruption," TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said in a statement.
He said, "Irrespective of the payable rate, this clearly violates article 20(2) of the constitution under which state specifically commits to prevent possession of unearned income."
Expressing concern, the TIB executive director stated that the government's decision will encourage corruption.
"In effect, the government is incentivising citizens to accumulate illegal and undisclosed wealth throughout the year with the assurance that such black money will be legitimised at year-end," he added.
