Livestock ministry seeks funds to sell meat, eggs, milk at affordable prices in Ramadan at 25 points in Dhaka
Livestock ministry sought an allocation of Tk4.5 crore from the Ministry of Finance for the first seven days

The Department of Livestock Services has sought funds from the Ministry of Finance to sell eggs, milk, beef, broiler chicken, and mutton at 25 points in Dhaka at affordable prices during Ramadan in a bid to control cost hikes of essentials.
The programme will run from the first day of Ramadan till the 28th day.
A letter, signed by Mohammad Abu Sufian, acting director-general of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, stated today that the products will be purchased directly from farmers and sold to consumers.
Twenty-five freezer vans will be hired to sell the products at 25 locations in Dhaka.
The livestock ministry sought an allocation of Tk4.5 crore for the purchase of 3.5 lakh eggs, 35,000 liters of milk, 8,000kg of broiler chickens, 30,000kg of beef, 1,000kg of mutton, as well as van rent and workers' wages in the first seven days.
The revenue from the sale of these products will be deposited in the government treasury, and it will be used to purchase more products for the next seven days.
After selling products until the 28th day of Ramadan, the final revenue will be deposited in the government treasury, as mentioned in the letter.
Recently, Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar announced that eggs, milk, and meat would be sold at affordable prices during Ramadan.
Writing to the finance ministry requesting the necessary funds, the livestock ministry stated, "If, for any reason, this programme is halted, the public will be dissatisfied, which might tarnish the government's image."
