'More challenges ahead': Finance adviser stresses effective footprint for next govt
As chief guest of the event, Salehuddin also emphasised that training bank officials alone is not sufficient
Bangladesh is likely to face more challenges over the next three to four months, Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed said today (4 October), stressing the need to leave behind an effective footprint for the incoming government.
"Within the next three to four months, we will face greater challenges. At the very least, we must try to leave behind an effective footprint for the next government," he said while speaking at an event held at a hotel in the capital, organised to mark the 15th anniversary of Financial Excellence Limited.
"If you do not follow your own commitments, the people will bring you down to the streets. History can repeat itself, because the public is very conscious," he added.
As chief guest of the event, Salehuddin also emphasised that training bank officials alone is not sufficient.
"Training of the mind is equally important. A trained but dishonest individual can often cause more harm than an untrained person," he noted.
Pointing to shortcomings in both regulatory and policy frameworks, Salehuddin said, "It is not possible to correct all past mistakes within just 14 months. Therefore, the public needs to have patience. We are trying to implement some fundamental reforms in the coming months."
