Beneficiaries getting PM’s cash aid easily through bKash amid pandemic

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the disbursement of Tk2,500 each among the country's 50 lakh distressed families through mobile financial services (MFS) to lessen their woes triggered by the Covid-19 global pandemic.

She inaugurated the project through a video conferencing from her official residence Gono Bhaban recently.

Out of total beneficiaries, 15 lakh will receive the aid through bKash before the Eid-ul-Fitr. It will bring some relief for these people during the month of Ramadan and in the upcoming Eid festival, said a media statement issued on Thursday.

The beneficiaries who will receive the grants through bkash need not pay any charge for the cash-out.

In this regard, government will contribute Tk15 and bKash will contribute the rest Tk31.25 for clearing the cash-out charge.

The bKash authority is glad to be a part of this noble initiative through this contribution.

This financial aid has been ensured to reach the right person through NID verification. All preparations have been made so that the families could cash out the money without any hassle, the media statement read.

In her inaugural address, Prime Minister said it is the benefit of Digital Bangladesh as people do not now need to receive money physically neither do they have to go to anyone for help.

Instead, they can get any financial aid directly to their mobile banking accounts, she said.

A fisherman from Barguna district and a rickshaw puller from Shariatpur district were overwhelmed after receiving grants from Prime Minister cash-aid scheme and thanked her wholeheartedly by joining video conferencing.

Kamal Quadir, chief executive officer of bKash said the government's vision to build the Digital Bangladesh makes today's great initiative of sending financial aid to the marginalised families successful even in this pandemic time.

bKash is proud to be a part of such noble initiative. During the pandemic, bKash is also accomplishing the task of disbursing government incentives to the RMG workers.

"We believe, the beneficiaries of this financial aid given by the Prime Minister can easily avail cash-out service from the nearest bKash agent points without any hassle or additional cost," he added.
