New Biman board of directors pledge robust reforms

The newly re-formed Board of Directors of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited held its first meeting yesterday, placing strong emphasis on fleet expansion and the advancement of passenger services, according to a Biman press release. The board also discussed the approved agreement with Boeing, which is expected to be signed by 30 April.

On 30 December 2025, Biman Bangladesh Airlines decided to purchase 14 aircraft from the US manufacturer, Boeing.

The 13-member board was restructured with a government notification issued on 25 April by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, in accordance with the Companies Act, 1994, and the airline's Articles of Association. Rumi A. Hossain has been appointed as chairman of the new board. Mr. Hossain holds extensive experience in banking and corporate leadership.

The day-long meeting took place at Balaka, Biman's headquarter in Dhaka. The board members reviewed the airline's overall operations, financial management, safety standards, and long-term strategic priorities. The discussion focused on expanding the aircraft fleet to strengthen competitiveness on international routes and improving service quality to ensure a better passenger experience.

The meeting highlighted the importance of building a modern and efficient fleet as well as adopting customer-centered service initiatives. They also expressed their commitment to transforming the airline to a financially sustainable and globally competitive national carrier through updated and strategic decision-making, which includes investing in new technologies, enhancing operational efficiency, and prioritizing customer satisfaction.

With a blend of expertise and professional experience, the new board is expected to lead Biman Bangladesh Airlines toward becoming a state-of-the-art, self-reliant, and internationally acclaimed flag carrier.
