Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzak has sought India's assistance in agro-processing and the mechanisation of agriculture in Bangladesh.

India is far ahead of Bangladesh in terms of modernisation of agriculture, he said on Sunday.

The minister said this while talking to Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das; who paid a courtesy visit to him at his office in the Secretariat.

"The modernisation of agriculture is needed for agro-processing and marketing. Bangladesh lags behind in this regard," Razzak said.

Razzak and Riva discussed bilateral ties between the two countries in terms of: agriculture, livestock, agro-engineering, and dairy.

The minister said Bangladesh is rapidly moving towards industrialisation.

He said the domestic market should be expanded by strengthening and improving the rural economy.

"There are numerous scopes for the two countries to assist each other; not only in agriculture but also in many other sectors, such as industrialisation and service," said Razzak.

The Indian envoy hailed Bangladesh's success in agriculture.

She said there are many opportunities for Bangladesh and India to assist each other with agro-processing and dairy, as well as light and agro-engineering.

The diplomat gave her assurances that India will offer its assistance in all these sectors.
