Do not hike prices of medicine, PPE: CCCI urges traders
The CCCI president urged the authorities to increase vigilance for preventing unscrupulous traders from arbitrarily hiking medicine prices
The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) on Sunday urged traders not to create an artificial crisis and hike prices of commonly used medicines and protective equipment during the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Business is a great profession. It is disappointing that in the time of crisis, some unscrupulous businessmen are holding people hostage by creating an artificial crisis of common medicines and selling those for three to four times higher than the original price for extra profit," said CCCI President Mahbubul Alam.
He opined that making profits by cashing in on the coronavirus crisis is a crime, reads a press release.

Mahbubul Alam requested the port authorities to take measures for facilitating the import of emergency medicine, raw materials and various medical supplies on a priority basis.
He also urged the authorities concerned to increase vigilance for preventing unscrupulous traders from arbitrarily hiking medicine prices although there is no shortage in the market.
The CCCI president expressed his sincere gratitude to all frontline Covid-19 fighters including officials of the administration and law enforcement, doctors, and health workers for their efforts in protecting the public.
