‘CMP-Bidyanondo Field Hospital’ starts operations in Ctg Wednesday

A 100-bed hospital, jointly initiated by Chattogram Metropolitan  Police (CMP) and Bidyanondo Foundation, is set to start its operations from n Wednesday to fight against coronavirus pandemic.

Officials involved with the project said four separate wards for male and female patients have been set up and a central oxygen system has been installed while necessary medical equipment have been purchased.

During the opening day, healthcare service will start with 50 beds, but it would be transformed into a 100-bed hospital soon, they said. Initial preparations have been taken for the first three months, but the service would continue after reviewing the situation, they said.

Bidyanondo Foundation has been serving humanity since its formation, but after the coronavirus pandemic struck the country it decided to build a partnership with CMP to build the hospital, said a press release.

The CMP and Bidyanondo have chosen a convention center at Patenga to build a hospital.

They already appointed adequate doctors, nurses and cleaners.

A team of specialists will also provide support through video-conferencing and in other ways.

Another team of 50 volunteers of Bidyanondo who have hailed from various parts of the country will also work in the hospital.

About the hospital, CMP Commissioner Md. Mahabubor Rahman said, ''Every member of the police department is working as frontline fighters to deal with the pandemic from the very beginning. On the other hand, Bidyanondo Foundation has been working for the people after COVID-19 struck. We decided to partner with each other and build this hospital as the caseload in the country continued to increase significantly. This hospital will not only provide healthcare service but will also inspire others to do good for the people."

Bidyanondo Foundation's Chairman Kishor Kumar Das said, "I saw a photograph of a poor man where he died on the street after failing get a hospital bed during this pandemic. It struck my mind. I felt they who have the ability should come forward to help the poor people facing challenges for treatment. So, we from the Bidyanondo, wanted to create an example of hope and inspiration."

He further said, "Many people are dying but many would have survived with quick and adequate response. Can't we ensure a respectful death for people? Can't they have some care and sympathy before they die? That's why we decided to build this hospital and now this has become a reality."
