Another doctor dies from Covid-19 in Barishal

Another doctor died from Covid-19 at 5.35 pm on Friday while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

The deceased Emdad Ullah Khan, 58, son of Majid Ahmed Khan of Baufal upazila in Patuakhali district was a senior consultant at the sex and dermatology department at Sadar hospital.

Dr Rahat Anwer Choudhury, joint secretary of the Foundation for Doctors' Safety, Rights and Responsibilities, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

Emdad left behind his two sons. He lived with his family near Oxford Mission Road in the city.  

SM Bakir Hossain, director at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, said "Dr Emdad Ullah was admitted to the corona unit of the hospital with fever, cough and breathing problems on Thursday afternoon. He was transferred to the ICU on Friday morning after his breathing difficulties worsened. He died at 5:35 pm there."

Biplob Kumar Das, chief physician of the Department of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, said,  "Even in the time of coronavirus, Emdad was coming to the hospital regularly to treat patients. It is believed that the doctor was infected while treating Covid-19 patients. He showed symptoms a bit late."
