Highlights:

•    Total sample test: 2,283,964


Bangladesh confirmed 20 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Tuesday at 8 am.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 5,838, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the meantime, 1,335 people have been tested positive for Covid-19 and the number of cases in the country now stands at 401,586.

The latest day's infection rate was 10.58% of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date is 17.58%. The death rate stands at 1.45%.

Among the day's victims, 14 were men and six were women who passed away in different hospitals across the country.

Moreover, 17 of them hailed from Dhaka, two from Chattogram, and one from the Khulna division.

Meanwhile, 12,617 samples were tested in 111 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 22,83,964 samples have been tested in the country so far.

Also, 1,523 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 3,18,123 with a 79.22% recovery rate.

The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 4,494 of the total deceased were men and 1,344 were women.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March this year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
