2 lakh people to be vaccinated daily: Health minister

Two lakh people will be given Covid-19 vaccine per day, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque.
"Vaccination programme will begin with the doses gifted by India," the minister said in a briefing today.
People will be vaccinated in Dhaka first and later in union level later, he added.
The health minister also said, "The vaccination programme will not be started by giving doses to any VIPs, rather front liners will be given preference."
Mentioning the vaccines will arrive Wednesday or Thursday, he said, "We are yet to be informed about the schedule of the flight that will bring the vaccines here."
Four vaccination teams will work at district level, six teams in each of the medical colleges and two in each upazila. Some 28,000 people will volunteer in the vaccination.
Bangladesh is going to receive 20 lakh doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine from India on 20 January as a gift.
Bangladesh government in November last year signed a deal with the Serum Institute of India to buy 3 crore doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. The minister said the first lot of the purchase will arrive within 26 January.
The inoculation in Bangladesh will begin within a week of the vaccine arrival. In Dhaka, there will be 300 vaccination centres to carry out the immunisation.
