106 stranded Indians return home through Akhaura checkpost

Some 106 Indians stranded in different parts of Bangladesh have returned to India on Thursday noon through the Akhaura International Immigration Checkpost in Brahmanbaria.
Riva Ganguly Das, the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, came to the checkpost and bade farewell to the passengers so that they would not face any inconvenience at the checkposts of the two countries.
Morshedul Haque, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Akhaura checkpost, said, "We had learned that 129 Indian citizens will return home through this checkpost. But by Thursday noon, 106 people had completed immigration and entered India.

"The rest did not come to the checkpost."
Meanwhile, High Commissioner Riva Ganguly Das told reporters, "Many people were stranded in Bangladesh due to the lockdown. About one and a half thousand people have already been sent to India on nine flights.
"There will be another flight today. A lot of precautions have to be taken because of the coronavirus. Those who are going will be tested for coronavirus in India. Everyone must be in quarantine."
The Indian High Commissioner was accompanied by Additional District Magistrate of Brahmanbaria Mitu Maryam, Akhaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tahmina Akter Raina and Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Alauddin Chowdhury.
