Unilever’s Kalurghat factory inaugurates ETP extension

Unilever Bangladesh Limited (UBL) recently inaugurated the latest expansion of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) of its Kalurghat Factory (KGF) in Chattogram.

Harry Verweij, ambassador of the Netherlands to Bangladesh, inaugurated the expansion project at a programme on Thursday. He was accompanied by Senior Advisor of Economic and Commercial Affairs of the embassy, reads a press release.  

Kedar Lele, chairman and managing director; Ruhul Quddus Khan, supply chain director; Siddharth Nandy, factory director; and Shamima Akhter, head of Corporate Affairs, Partnerships and Communications of UBL were also present on the occasion. 

Preserving natural environment against pollution, the ETP is a sustainable solution to reutilizing, recycle industrial liquid wastes and cleans contaminated water from rivers and lakes, and other water sources eventually leads to a reduction in the usage of fresh water in industries.

The expansion project, currently can handle 400 tons of effluent per day with 12000 Cod (Chemical Oxygen Demand) level by incorporating different units to drive superior performance and cater the growing needs.

Harry Verweij said, "This is a great opportunity to visit Kalurghat Factory of UBL, which carries historical value with it. As delightful, as I am to witness KFG's actions and ingenuity on how the factory is managing its environmental impact and ensuring safety of the environment and its people."
