The Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh yesterday inaugurated the yearlong programme to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at its office in Bangla Motor in the capital.

The first programme of the year started with the hoisting of the national flag and homage for Bangabandhu, said a press release.

Then a dua mahfil was held to pray for the peace of Bangabandhu's soul. Council members, general members, officials, staff and students of the institute took part in the dua mahfil.

Muzaffar Ahmed, president of Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh, in his opening speech, said that Bangabandhu's name represents sacrifice, pride and spirit for the entire nation.

"We remember him with deep respect," he added.

Among others, the institute's Vice-President Selim Reza, Council Member Md Sharif Hasan, acting secretary Md Shamibur Rahman, as well as, Zahangir Alam Manik, chairman of the Dhaka Regional Chapter, were present at the event.

Two sub-committees under the institute – Dhaka Regional Chapter and Members' Welfare and Recreation – have collaborated to arrange a number of events throughout next year to celebrate Bangabandhu's birth centenary, the press release added.
