Axiata appoints new Deputy Group CEO and Group CEO-designate

The board of Axiata Group Berhad has recently announced the appointment of Dato' Mohd Izzaddin Idris as the Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer and Group CEO-designate.

The appointment comes as the culmination of a comprehensive succession planning process by Axiata, said a press release on Sunday.

Dato' Mohd Izzaddin Idris's appointment to the new role took effect from January 24.  He is currently a board member of Axiata Group Berhad and was re-designated as an Executive Director.

The Axiata board also announced that President and Group Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim's contract will be extended until the end of 2020.

Izzaddin will report to Jamaludin in the interim period and will take over as President and Group CEO by the end of this year.

As the Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer, Izzaddin will oversee key corporate functions, namely finance, strategy, marketing, corporate affairs, and the increasingly critical areas of cybersecurity, privacy, trust, ethics and compliance.

In addition, he will be responsible for two of the three core areas: edotco, the infrastructure tower business, and Axiata Digital, its digital services business.

Izzaddin has been serving on Axiata's board since November 2016 and assumed other responsibilities within the organisation over time.

He has been active in the board subcommittees; chairing the Axiata Digital Business Investment and Oversight Committee as well as taking on membership of the Board Audit Committee, Board Risk Management Committee and Board Annual Report Committee.

He is also involved in the Operational Companies (OpCos) as the Chairman of Robi Axiata and a Board member of Dialog Axiata.

Izzaddin has had an extensive career in leading or being part of the senior leadership team of major corporations. These include serving as the Chief Executive Officer of UEM Group Berhad.

Prior to that, Izzaddin was the Chief Financial Officer of Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Senior Vice President Corporate Finance of Southern Bank Berhad, Chief Financial Officer of Ranhill Berhad, and Chief Operating Officer of Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad.

Izzaddin graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in finance from the University of New South Wales, Australia. He is a fellow of CPA Australia, and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.
