Women, children among 38 rescued from traffickers’ hideout in Cox’s Bazar; 2 detained
According to law enforcement sources, 70 human traffickers have been arrested or detained this year so far in Teknaf, and 239 people have been rescued.

The coast guard and navy have rescued 38 people, including women and children, who were held captive in the hills of Teknaf, Cox's Bazar, for human trafficking and detained two suspected traffickers.
According to a press release issued today (3 October), the coast guard's media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque said that acting on a tip-off, the two forces launched a raid yesterday in the remote hilly area near Kacchhapia Government Primary School in Baharchhara union of Teknaf.
Eighteen women, 12 men and eight children were freed from the traffickers' hideout, he added.
During primary interrogation, the forces came to know that the victims were tortured to extract ransom and were being prepared for smuggling to Malaysia and other destinations via sea routes.
Legal action is underway against the detained traffickers, the coast guard official said, adding that operations will continue to curb human trafficking and other illegal activities.
