A woman who participated in the July-August mass uprising in Bogura was threatened with rape by unknown individuals today (25 December).

The victim, wishing to be anonymous, disclosed the matter by posting the note she received in a public group of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

According to the woman, she lives in Bogura's Shajahanpur.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge of Shajahanpur Police Station Wadud Alam said police will take actions after properly investigating the matter.

In the post, the victim said she had found the note at the veranda of her house, which reads, "Are you ready Madam? Where was your fear during the movement? Won't you come alone ever? For how long will you move with companions? We will be your companions next, get ready to receive new companions every night. Walk through the town alone if you can. Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu."

Sources said there were two female coordinators of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Bogura during the uprising, who have not received the threat.

There were some other women who had taken part in the movement. Sources think someone among them has received the rape threat.

Contacted, prominent Organiser of the movement Niyoti Sarkar Nitu said, "Some unknown people have threatened a participant of the movement with rape by sending her a note. Prior to that, an assistant coordinator has received death threat. The lives of the participants of the mass uprising have become insecure due to such threats."

"Although the woman has sought anonymity, the administration cannot be silent. I demand the authorities to identify the perpetrators and take legal steps against them. I also urge the authorities to provide security to the participants of the mass uprising in Bogura," Nitu said.

Sakib Khan, an organiser of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said, "Already some unknown people have written on the walls at the house of a coordinator and threatened him with death. The coordinators will face grave danger ahead if steps are not taken right now."

Earlier in the wee hours of Wednesday, some unknown people gave death threats to Assistant Coordinator of the Movement Habib Sayem by writing on the walls of his house at Nawdapara area in Bogura Sadar.
